“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”

This blog is written for new members of the dojo in Portugal as well as friends and trainees living abroad.

It’s been a while since I kept a blog. For the longest time I’ve wondered what approach to take, and whether a ‘blog’ is even relevant these days? As mediums go it has the flexibility to deliver written word, audio and video, so it remains a useful tool for sharing insights and lessons to those interested.

Having decided to keep a karate blog the next dilemma is where to begin? Books need a beginning, middle and end but a blog is more fluid. It just needs a beginning and then consistent updates. To this end I endeavour to post weekly. The source of posts will be drawn from discussion points that come up in the dojo as well as reflections from the journals I’ve kept over the years during visits to Okinawa and Japan. If you’re reading from afar then feel free to pose questions via the contact form and I’ll do my best to answer them.

And now, karate.
